A Legend is Born

The Château de la Croix Des Gardes was built in 1919 by Swiss industrialist, Paul Girod. A Florentine-style mansion sitting on the peak of the hill, surrounded by woodland and gardens, the ‘jewel’ of the elegant ‘Quartier des Anglais’.

Alfred Hitchcock, Cary Grant & Grace Kelly, Brigitte Bardot as well as well as Leslie Caron, all fell for the majestic charms of Château de la Croix des Gardes. The houses’ history is intimately intertwined with the rise of Riviera.

Legend says that Hitchcock initially discovered the Château as a guest at one of the first parties held to mark the Cannes Film Festival, which led him to use it as a backdrop to frame Grace Kelly and Cary Grant’s on-screen romance.
